The beautiful interiors, the soft morning light, the gardens just beyond the door. Everything feels wonderfully calm; even with all the excitement of the day ahead.A few of my favourite frames from a gorgeous morning in the Walled Gardens. The carefully chosen details, the flowers, the dress and those little moments when a bride has a minute to herself before everything begins.For me, bridal preparation photography is about so much more than documenting the finishing touches. The night before…One day never quite feels long enough, does it?One of my favourite things about weddings becoming more of a weekend celebration is the opportunity to spend that little bit longer with everyone you love. A beautiful dinner the evening before, a few glasses of wine, your closest people all in one place, and absolutely no rush to be anywhere else.I know I’m going to see much more of this in 2027 and I’m very much here for it.For Jak & Paige, their March wedding celebrations at Middleton Lodge began with the most gorgeous, intimate dinner. Candlelight, incredible florals, beautifully dressed tables, cocktails, speeches and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The sort of evening where everyone settles in, the conversation flows and the excitement for tomorrow is already building.And from a photography perspective, these evenings are rather special.   • My favourite things, day four… portraits that don’t feel like portraits.The best photographs of you shouldn’t feel like you’re performing for the camera.They should still feel like you; just on a very, very good day!A huge part of my job is knowing when to step in and when to leave things alone, finding the right light, knowing which angle will flatter you - giving just a little direction to make you feel confident, without turning the whole thing into a photoshoot.And this is where trust matters so much.You really do have to trust your photographer to read the room, understand your energy and know what is going to look beautiful before you can see it yourself. Because most people aren’t used to being photographed all day; and that’s totally ok!S&S at the Main House at Middleton Lodge were the perfect example. Beautifully dressed, completely themselves and happy to just go with it. Some moments were gently directed, some happened entirely on their own, and somewhere in between you get photographs that feel polished and editorial without ever feeling stiff.That; for me, is always the aim.To make you look incredible, yes.
